“I dream of an educational realm where we’re both wealthy and dignified experts.” So began Henry Lim, founder of GLEXiS Tuition Centre. Henry has been in the education industry for 10 years. Known as a troublemaker kid – from school brawls to failing grades, it was all par for the course. As Henry states, drawing upon Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, we first fulfill our physiological needs prior to psychological needs. Monetary compensation is just one of the ways to meet basic needs so that teachers can commit to work without worrying about bread and butter issues.

Transformation is Tough but Essential

As the outbreak of Covid emerged in 2020, Henry saw transforming to online education a necessity. At the same time, he took a bold step by introducing the VIMIGO performance reward system to the company, with a goal to bring mutual benefits for the company and the team. As VIMIGO was rolled out, many of the staff left the company. Fortunately, a few of them stayed, one has been serving for 10 years since she joined the company in her early 20’s.

The company would easily be caught in a vicious cycle when team morale is low, which in turn affects work performance, customer satisfaction and ultimately business revenue.

“Love should never hurt,” Henry says. “We prioritize our educators’ well-being, ensuring they’re both well-compensated and valued. Education should be a profession worth respect. I hope we can elevate the status of educators.”

In GLEXiS, Henry doesn’t put his teachers in the position of doing sales. Instead, he stresses the importance of quality teaching and customer services. Word-of-mouth, he believes, is more crucial to make the business sustainable. “So long as you’re a dedicated and capable teacher, the VIMIGO system will never leave you unseen.”
